

Olive attended the Clarkston Preparatory and Fountain High Schools in British Guiana, now Guyana. She initially trained as a secretary but her passion was teaching. She completed teacher programs in Guyana and at Furzedown Teacher Training College, the Tooting Institute and London Council in England where she also studied the Montessori Method of Education. Olive taught at the Fountain Preparatory School and the Oral School for the Deaf in Guyana. She was resident Assistant Matron at the Kelvedon Branch of St. Bernardo’s Homes in Essex, where she established a new kindergarten program and later a supply teacher in London County Council Schools. In NY, she was a Medical Secretary at Montefiore Hospital in the Bronx.
Olive was involved in several social organizations including Church, YMCA, Women’s Auxiliary, writer, song and craft groups and held several leadership positions.
Olive was the last of four surviving children of Edward and Mary Taylor, and the wife of Osmond, all of whom have predeceased her. Cherishing her memory are her sons, Osmond and Burchell, daughters, Lynette and Joycelyn, daughters- in-law Veronica, Enid and Sheila, son-in-law Thomas, beloved grandson Richard, granddaughters, Marcia G., Sandra, Malaika and Marcia B., grand daughter-in-law Frances, great grandchildren, Xavier, Marcus and Tamenech and many other relatives and friends. The family thanks the Faith United Church family, especially Eleanor Johnson; Dr. Raymond Paxton; the staff at Ashwood Assisted Living, St. David’s North and the dedicated nurses and nursing assistants at Stonebridge for her care, especially in her final months.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Faith United Methodist Church.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 14th at 4:00 PM at Faith United Methodist Church located at 2701 S. Lamar Blvd, Austin, TX 78704.
