

Orpha departed life on earth on August 27, 2009 following a brief illness. She was born January 25, 1914 at Rock Water Hole (Caldwell County, Texas), the twelfth of fourteen children born to the late John and Minnie Jackson. She was also the beloved wife of Robert Charles Gips, Sr. who preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughter, Camille Gips Johnston, of Austin; son, Robert Charles Gips Jr., of Austin; granddaughter, Lisa Jan Greener and her children, Liza Harlan, Alex Harlan, & K. T. Mutchler of Austin; sister, Blanche Richter, of Houston; and brother, Garson 'Bud' Jackson of Austin. She is also survived by a devoted friend, Raymond Tucker, whom she welcomed into her immediate family circle and by numerous generations of nieces and nephews with fond and indelible memories of her loving spirit. Orpha was an avid contract bridge competitor and played frequently at local, regional, and national venues. She enjoyed travelling 'the wide open spaces' and was a frequent visitor to the national parks in the U.S. and Canada to enjoy the majestic scenery and observe the wildlife (especially the bears!). Orpha also loved reading, word puzzles, and spending time with her family and friends. Orpha touched the lives of many people with her smile, generosity, and genial spirit and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Friends are invited to visit with the family at Weed~Corley~Fish Funeral Home (N. Lamar Location) on Monday, August 31st from 7:00-8:30PM. Chapel services will follow on Tuesday, September 1st at 10:00AM at the funeral home.
