Oscar John “Topper” Kramer, Jr. was born on July 31, 1926 in Austin, Texas to Clara and Oscar Kramer, Sr. He died in Austin on June 3, 2011. Topper graduated from Austin High School and lived his entire life in Austin. He worked for 42 years for Nash-Phillips-Copus as a carpenter, estimator, supervisor of the mill, lumber yard and plant nursery. He was also a very active member of First Baptist Church of Wells Branch. Topper was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rita, and his parents.
He is survived by his sons, Oscar Kramer, III of Liberty Hill, Bobby Kramer and his wife, Sandra, of Jonestown, and Charles Kramer and his wife, Sharon, of Smithville. He is also survived by two granddaughters; 4 great-grandchildren; two brothers; one sister; as well as step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. Oscar was a very active member of First Baptist Church of Wells Branch. He loved his church and parishners, and was much respected and loved in return. He knew and was loved by hundreds of people in and around Austin. For many years, Topper delighted in raising and showing finches and canaries. However, after retirement, his passions were growing roses, and his eight water lily/fish ponds. He loved flowers and spent countless hours caring for them. Topper was very generous – always willing to help church, family and friends any time there was a need. He has kept the yards of the neighbors on his street mowed for many years. “I love doing things for people” he said many times. Oscar’s heart was broken when his precious Rita passed away, and, at last, he is with her again. God speed, Daddy. Friends are cordially invited to a family gathering from six o’clock until eight o’clock in the evening on Monday, the 6th of June 2011, at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas. A funeral service will be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, the 7th of June 2011, at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas with Rev. Ed Humphrey officiating. Interment will follow in Austin Memorial Park, Austin, Texas. In lieu of flowers and the usual remembrances, the family suggests memorial contributions be made in Oscar’s memory to the Marbridge Foundation, 2310 Bliss Spillar Road, Manchaca, Texas 78652 or to First Baptist Church of Wells Branch.
