On Wednesday, April 12, 2023, our family lost the rock and pillar of our lives, Patricia Gayle Hamzy (Ross). Patricia succumbed to a short and unexpected illness as her loved ones surrounded her with their lifelong love as she entered eternal life.
Patricia is preceded in death by her parents, Arvin B. Ross and Margie L. Ross, sisters, Linda Parschke and Arvilene Taylor, brother, Alan Ross and grandson Adam Miller. She is survived by her son Curtis R. Hamzy (Cynthia) and Daughter Rhea Ann Hamzy. She also leaves behind her granddaughters Jennifer Ann Hamzy and Jamie L. Miller, grandsons Casey Lane Hamzy (Amber) and Roger Miller, and great-granddaughters Everly Jade Cox and Hazel Anne Hamzy. Many more family members and friends mourn her loss.
Patricia was known as a diehard University of Texas fan and held season tickets for many of the sports teams. One of her legacy gifts is teaching her son the importance of University of Texas football which bonded them well beyond the football season. Some of the most memorable times shared included conversations about coaches, players and her analysis of the season. She was a strong and independent woman who was not afraid to give her opinion. Her “love hobbies” included working in her garden, tending to her flowers, solving crossword puzzles and cooking for her family. She was always willing to give words of wisdom and encouragement, especially while sharing a meal. Her home was always a welcoming place with the most beautiful garden.
Patricia was a devout Catholic, and demonstrated her devotion as a member of Saint Louis King of France Catholic Church. Community service defined her professional career. Some of the most impactful work was at Travis State School and Any Baby Can. She was proud that she was able to play a small role in helping families throughout her career.
Because of her love for gardening, we ask that you honor Patricia with memory donations to Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin, Texas. https://www.wildflower.org/donate
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at the St. David's Medical Center 5th floor ICU nurses (Breanna, Geneva, Monika, Abby and Yolani) for their care and compassion to our mom during the most difficult time of our lives. Each of you made this time of transition special.
