May 22, 1958 – August 10, 2025
Patrick “Bubba” Sconci Jr., 67, passed away on August 10, 2025. A lifelong Austinite, he was born on May 22, 1958, to Pat and Patsy Sconci. He grew up steeped in the traditions of his large and loving Lebanese and Italian family. Pat worked in the family business (Pat’s Sheet Metal at 7th and Red River Street) before and after joining the Fire Department.
Pat proudly served the City of Austin as a firefighter, dedicating nearly his entire career to the Austin Fire Department’s Engine 6 on South Congress Avenue. That station was his second home. Courage, selflessness, and service above self — that was Pat.
After retiring from the Austin Fire Department, his commitment to service continued, first with the State of Texas Fire Marshal’s Office as a Fire Safety House driver, where he traveled across Texas teaching school children fire prevention. He transitioned from the State Fire Marshal’s Office to Austin Public Health as a safety officer, until the opportunity arose for him to join his fellow retired Austin firefighters in a new Disaster Reservist program with the City of Austin’s Homeland Security and Emergency Management Department. He was once again reunited with his brothers and loved every minute of the work. Throughout Pat’s career, he was honored to be a part of the Austin Firefighters Relief and Outreach program, where he served on the board for over 20 years, raising funds to support firefighters in need — a passion that was unwavering. If you did not give willingly, he was not above good-naturedly persuading folks to donate to the Relief and Outreach Fund.
Pat was deeply devoted to his wife, Ky Haire, and to his beloved dog, Sampson. When Pat was not working, he and Ky enjoyed taking road trips to Arkansas. Pat loved the outdoors and any type of hunting or fishing; he was ready to go — guns and rods loaded. Family and community were his priority and at the center of his life. His loyalty, kindness, and quick wit will be remembered by all who knew him.
Known to his nieces and nephew as “Crazy Uncle Bubba,” he brought joy, humor, and adventure to every gathering. Whether it was impromptu outings or the family’s favorite tradition — go-kart racing at Circuit of the Americas, where he often claimed first place — he embraced life with enthusiasm and generosity.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pat and Patsy Sconci, and his sister, Melisa Ann Sconci. He is survived by his wife, Ky; sisters, Mary Sconci Wolfe and Marjorie Sconci Studer; nieces, Bretagne Abirached (Raymond) and Kimberly Desai (Amol); great-niece Kristin Thompson and great-nephew Tyler Thompson; as well as numerous cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.
A visitation and remembrance service will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on August 19, 2025, at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard. A Funeral Mass will be held on August 20, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Ignatius Martyr Catholic Church, 126 West Oltorf Street, Austin, TX. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery.
