She is also survived by her sons three wives, Susan, Kerrin and Dee, nine grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. Pat was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Richard W. Hopper.
Pat was born on October 4, 1926 in Lone Wolf, OK to Samuel Sydney Summers and Annie Laura Summers (Thomas). She graduated from Frederick High School in 1944. Pat married Richard, her high school sweetheart, on January 14, 1945. She attended Oklahoma College for Women for one year while waiting for her husband to return home from the Pacific at the end of WWII. After Richard was called back into active military duty with the US Army during the Korean conflict, Pat spent many years moving from one assignment to the next with her husband and four children.
After her husband’s retirement and moving to Austin, Pat became very active in several women’s clubs and was a long-time, active member of Faith United Methodist Church, which was on South Lamar Blvd. She also painted with oils and water colors and designed floral arrangements.
On Friday at 2pm, a 20-minute graveside Celebration of Life service will be held at the Central Texas Veteran’s Cemetery, HWY 195, Killeen, TX where Pat will be interred with her husband. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the charity of your choice.
