

It is with solemn reverence that we announce the passing of Paul Frederick Byers, Sr., of Austin, Texas, a proud United States Navy veteran, devoted family man, and dedicated public servant.
Born in Memphis, Tennessee, to Josephine "Miss Sweetie" Harris and Neal “Big Daddy” Byers, Sr. Paul answered the call to serve his country upon graduating from high school. He joined the U.S. Navy, where he found his purpose and mastered his trade as an electronics technician. Over the course of two honorable decades in uniform, Paul demonstrated exceptional skill, discipline, and devotion to duty, earning the respect of his fellow sailors and superiors alike.
Upon retiring from active service, Paul returned with his family to Texas. He went on to share his talents with IKON Office Solutions, before transitioning to a second career in corrections. He served faithfully with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and the Shelby County Jail until his well-earned retirement in 2018.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Neal “Brick” Jr. and Charles, and his sisters Willean and Hattie Byers. He is survived by his beloved wife, Jane (Beale) Byers; two sons, Robert “Neal” (Olya) Byers and Paul Fredrick Byers II; one daughter, Lillian “Crazy Horse” Byers; his brother, Johnny Byers; his sisters, Pat Nelms and Elizabeth Cooper; and a host of cherished nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
A devoted patriot, Paul’s legacy is one of honor, integrity, and unwavering commitment—to his family, his community, and his country.

A celebration of life for Paul will be held Saturday, June 28, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Fuller Sheffield Funeral Services, 2808 E Martin Luther King Jr, Austin, TX 78702.
Burial is Thursday, July 3, 2025 at 10 am please arrive at 9:45 am, at Ft Sam Houston National Cemetery 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209.
