Pauline LaFray Sparks Carnes

Pauline (Polly) LaFray Sparks Carnes was born April 12, 1934 in Glen Rose, Texas to Vertie and Vira Sparks. She lived in Alice, Texas, for many years. She died at home surrounded by her loving family on June 10, 2009. She is survived by adoring husband, Webb M. Carnes, Jr.; two wonderful sons, Billy Dixon Allen of Cameron, TX and Robert Aubrey Allen and wife Amorn of Pflugerville, TX; two grandchildren, Ryan and Rhianna Allen; good friend, Kenney Thurman; and three brothers, Douglas Sparks and wife Gayle, Ron Sparks and wife Eva, and Don Sparks. Her extended family includes Webb M. Carnes, III, his wife Suzanne and their sons Stephen and Gregory; David Carnes; Laurie, Tony and Ricardo Estupinian; and Webb's two brothers, James M. Carnes and wife Louise and Dr. Richard Carnes and wife Eleanor. Webb and Polly were married in 1973 in the Kensington Registry office in London, England. After London they lived in Houston, Connecticut, and Tokyo, Japan. They retired to Lakeway in 1986, and stayed ten years before moving to Round Rock so they could watch Ryan and Rhianna grow in grace. Polly enjoyed her family and many friends; travel, especially to Hawaii; and church activities. She will be missed by many. She was thankful for the loving friendship of Cynthia and Jack Gerlach. We give thanks to Dr. Ellen B. Smith for her excellent care during more than four years of treatment. Also, many thanks to Hospice Austin for their support and care, especially Deena Bagwell, Polly's faithful case manager. Many thanks to the caring friends at Cameron Road Church of Christ, Polly's sister Millie's home church. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 20th at St. Luke's on the Lake Episcopal Church, 5600 RR 620 North, Austin, TX with The Reverends Michael Wyckoff, Parker Jameson and Roland Timberlake officiating. The family sends grateful thanks to the clergy, staff and congregation at St. Luke's. Memorial gifts may be made to St. Luke's on the Lake Episcopal Church and Hospice Austin.
