Phil graduated from the University of Texas in 1975 with honors from the school of business. He took over ownership of the Navaho Inn in Menard, Texas, from his father, Murphy Barnes, in 1975 and owned it until 1997. He then moved to Austin and worked with Dillard’s at various locations from 1998 until 2015.
Phil is predeceased by his father, Murphy Barnes, and mother, Marguerite Barnes. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Alice Barnes, his son, Daniel Barnes, daughter-in-law Rachael Barnes, and granddaughters, Isadora Barnes and Eleanor Barnes.
Phil loved his family, music and hot rods. He also loved helping and being around animals. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Humane Society in his honor. There will be a private ceremony held for family.
Phil’s personality and love for life will be missed by all.
