

Pauline (Polly) Stevenson quietly went to be with her Lord after a short illness, on April 12, 2015. She was born in Iredell County, NC and was the daughter of the late Clarence N. Blackwelder and Mary P. Blackwelder.
She was a former music and K-3 teacher having been educated at Mitchell College, UNC at Charlotte, NC and North Texas State University, Denton, TX. She was church organist and choir director, for a number of years in several churches, and also taught the church Kindergarten Class for many years. She was also well liked by all the children she taught or with when she came into contact. They called her “Miss Polly”. She was also active in the Women of the Church in earlier years having served in many offices, as well as President. She was a long standing member of the National Retirement Teacher’s Association. She was a former member of the National Education of Young Children. After retiring from teaching, she was employed by Heart Place in Dallas, TX as a medical secretary for seven years. She and her husband moved to Cedar Park, TX in October, 1996 and she worked part time for a cardiologist in Round Rock, TX for four years. She attended Great Hills Baptist Church.
On December 26, 1950, she was married to Henry Ewing Stevenson who survives her. Also surviving her is one son, Larry Ewing Stevenson and wife, L.K., of Cedar Park, TX, two sisters, Mabel Mayes and husband Glenn, of Statesville, NC, Joyce Tinsley and her husband Roger of Shreveport, LA; two brothers, Ralph Blackwelder and wife, Edna, of Richmond, VA, and Roy Blackwelder and wife, Carol of High Point, NC. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 1:00-2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, the 15th of April 2015, at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills Funeral Home, 9700 Anderson Mill Rd., Austin, Texas. Services to follow at 2 p.m. Burial will be at Liberty Hill Cemetery at 4:00 p.m.
