

Richard (Dick) L.W. Hawkins November 19, 1914 September 21, 2007 Friday, September 21, 2007, Richard (Dick) Hawkins, formerly of Lakeway, passed away in Austin, Texas. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, moved to Sterling, IL with his parents at an early age. He graduated from high school in 1932. Spent 1933-1937 in the U.S. Navy. A positive experience which included the Great Lakes Radio School and serving on the Saratoga. After graduation from Milwaukee School of Engineering and employment with a Milwaukee Industrial Manufacturing Company, he began a long and productive career in the Welding Industry. During World War II, he served on the War Production Board in Washington, D.C. After the war, he moved to Houston, TX where he owned and operated a welding equipment and sales organization for more than 40 years. Upon retirement, he and his wife, Jeanette moved to Lakeway (Austin), TX in 1986. Richard was predeceased by his first wife and mother of his children, Miriam Gulliford Hawkins in 1970. He is survived by his present loving and devoted wife of 34 years, Jeanette Hawkins; his children, Susan Perez, Barbara McMillan and Richard Hawkins, Jr. and their spouses; 9 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and 6 great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by 2 step-daughters, Diana Wren and husband, Barbara West and one step granddaughter, and his brother, Charles Hawkins and wife. He was a devoted and beloved husband, father, and grandfather. He served his country as well as business associates with pride, diligence and honesty. He was a man of unquestionable integrity. He was of the Episcopal faith and a member of numerous organizations. He enjoyed playing golf, bridge, traveling and his back yard gardening. He will be missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him. Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, September 24, 2007 at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston, 6900 Lawndale. A Memorial service will be held at Lakeway Church at a later date.
