Robert was born on May 2, 1959, in Lansing, Michigan, to George Edward Coffey and Jean Anne Coffey. During his early years, his family moved frequently, living in Michigan, California, and Texas. He graduated from Anderson High School School in 1978 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Business Administration in Business Management from Southwest Texas State University in 1982.
In pursuit of his passion for the automotive industry, Robert enrolled in the National Automotive Dealer Candidate Academy (NADA), graduating in 1983 after gaining invaluable hands-on experience across the service, sales, and finance departments. He began his career working alongside his father at George Coffey Lincoln Mercury, quickly rising to the role of Vice President and General Manager due to his natural ability to connect with people and his devotion to the business.
It was at the dealership that Robert met the love of his life, Evelyn Bond. His ability to build meaningful relationships and his warm personality quickly won her heart. They married on June 24, 1989, and were blessed with two wonderful children, Michael and Corinne. Robert later followed his entrepreneurial aspirations, founding Coffey Cars in Marble Falls, where he continued his dedication to serving his customers and community.
Robert’s greatest joy came from being a father. He cherished every moment with his family, whether boating, swimming, or jet skiing together. He never missed a school event or game, always showing up with love and encouragement. The memories they shared were his most treasured. Robert also had an adventurous spirit and a deep love for travel. He and his family embarked on numerous Alaskan and Caribbean cruises, exploring new places around the world and creating unforgettable experiences.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, George and Jean Coffey. He is survived by his children, Michael and his wife Fei Fei, and Corinne and her husband Sam Diebal; his siblings, Allen Coffey and his wife Sylvia (Grant), Jack Coffey and his wife Catherine (Jenkins), and Karen (Coffey) Prendergast and her husband Robbie; as well as countless friends and colleagues whose lives he touched with his kindness, warmth, and humor.
Robert’s legacy lives on through his unwavering love, the relationships he nurtured, and the countless lives he touched. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
