My name is Clyde A. Eilers Jr. I just recently learned of Roberts passing. He was a mentor to myself and another friend. Robert introduced me to the game of golf at the age of 12 around 1993 and was very much a father figure. We lived in Del Valle at Austin Pecan park across from what is now Bergstrom Airport. Robert would take us to practice golf where he worked at the time at The Hills Country Club at Lakeway. Because of this I was able to attend college on a golf scholarship. I lost touch with Robert over the years and was never able to really express my gratitude. I would not be the man I am today if not for him. Rest in peace Robert and thank you “Lone Star Jr.”

So sorry to hear of Robert’s passing. I had a few classes with him from grade school at “ T.A. Brown  to High School at Lanier.
I remember his Smile. Along with his Rosie Cheeks. A good guy he was…
