

Bob (or Bobby) was born on October 7, 1931 in Victoria, Texas to Raymond and Simona Chapa and was raised there. He enjoyed playing High School football, baseball, and basketball.
He joined the Air Force in 1951 and graduated from boot-camp in San Antonio. He proudly served in the Korean War in 1951 as a medic and continued with the Air Force until 1955. After his service, he continued working in the medical field and became a Physician’s Assistant after graduating from the US Medical Center for Federal Prisoners in Springfield, MO. He worked in several different locations where he provided 35 years of government service until his retirement in 1986. He moved to Austin in 1979 to work for the Bastrop Federal Correctional Institution, considered Austin his home, and chose to retire there.
Bob was an avid golfer until age 89, and was a member of the Austin Senior Golf Association where he enjoyed golfing regularly with friends. He also enjoyed acting as Marshall for various LPGA events. He played football, baseball, and basketball in his youth, and continued as a fan of local sports teams, especially those of the University of Texas. He had a passion for traveling and had a great love for his dogs. He also enjoyed a wide array of music, including classical, blues, and jazz, and attended the New Orleans Jazz Festival for many years. He was a member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus for many years.
Bob touched the lives of many, and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his four children, Mona Chapa of Lompoc, California, Robert Chapa of Austin, Texas, Chris Chapa of Solvang, California, and Kathy Baker of Colorado Springs, Colorado; sister, Addie Kouba; brother-in-law, Tony Kouba; nephew, Mark Kouba; six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Cella Bella’s Hospice for their compassion and unwavering support.
A service will be held at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church at a later date, located at 4600 East Ben White Blvd. with a private burial to follow. In lieu of flowers, Bob requested contributions be made to St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church or the charity of your choice.
