Rose Lorelle Jacobs, age 93, of Austin, Texas, passed away peacefully on the morning of March 11, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on November 30, 1931, to Johnie and Bertha Hoffman in Bastrop, Texas.
Lorelle graduated from Bastrop High School, where she was a proud member of the Drum and Bugle Corps. She later attended Incarnate Word University in San Antonio, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Business.
After graduation, she attended modeling school before becoming a stewardess with American Airlines. Two years later, her wings were “clipped” when she married Richard Jacobs, a fighter pilot with the U.S. Air Force. Their first two children were born while the family was stationed in Japan. Later, Lorelle took care of their first four children while Richard flew 100 missions over North Vietnam. The family relocated several times across the United States before settling in Austin, where they completed their family with the birth of their fifth child.
Lorelle retired after 22 years of service at The University of Texas, where she worked as a Graduate Advisor in the Math Department.
Her faith and family meant everything to her. Her family grew to 34 members. She was deeply loved by all, and she prayed daily for each one of them. Family gatherings were filled with joy, delicious meals, and hearty laughter.
For 47 years, Lorelle made annual trips to Padre Island, where she would spend hours on the porch with her family, sipping coffee or watching the sunset. She was a steadfast supporter of her children and grandchildren, attending countless concerts, sporting events, and encouraging them in their academic pursuits. An avid sports fan, she cheered on her favorite team, the Texas Longhorns, with season tickets for both football and basketball for many years.
Lorelle was a devout member of St. Mary Cathedral and participated in the Catholic Daughters. She was also a proud member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas and was a sixth-generation Texan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Johnie and Bertha Osborn Hoffman; her sisters, Evelyn Lamb and her husband, James, and Anita Walls and her husband, Robert; and her brother, Patrick Hoffman.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 66 years, Richard Jacobs, and their five children: Evelyn Tybor and her husband, David; John Jacobs and his wife, Anita; Paul Jacobs and his wife, Kim; James Jacobs and his wife, Melanie; and Kristine Dugan and her husband, Matthew. She is also survived by her fourteen grandchildren: Joseph Tybor, John Tybor and his wife, Courtney; Claire Tybor; Celeste Tybor; Jacob Tybor; Rachael Dreibelbis and her husband, Justin; Michael Jacobs and his wife, Shelby; Richard Jacobs; Benjamin Jacobs; Samantha Jacobs; Christopher Jacobs; Katherine Dugan; Jack Dugan; and Julia Dugan. In addition, she leaves behind five cherished great-grandchildren: Clark Tybor, June Dreibelbis, Jill Dreibelbis, John Cutter Jacobs, and Gibson Jacobs.
