
Mrs. Rowena Totten Darter Looney, 92, of Austin, Texas, died Thursday. She was a fifth generation Texan, born in Austin in 1916. She was the third daughter of Rena McLaughlin and William Alexander Darter. She has been preceded in death by her parents and her three sisters: Margaret Leah Darter Pfeiffer, Maud Ann Darter Armstrong and Billye Mildred Darter Parsons. Her childhood was spent living in Brenham, Giddings and LaGrange. She attended the University of Mexico and the University of Texas. She worked for the Texas Medical Association as well as the City of Austin Water and Waste Water Department, retiring in 1978. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, a charter member of the Texian Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas and a member of The Daughters of the American Revolution. Rowena is survived by her son, John Guy Looney, his wife, Susan Kathleen Boyd, and their three sons Matthew Hamilton, Colin Guy, and Christopher Boyd and Colin's wife and son, Mary and Matthew Boyd; her daughter, Elizabeth Totten Looney and her two sons, Stephen Alexander Nelson and Daniel Bryan Nelson and Daniel's son Dylan Rae Nelson and wife, Sarah. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, December 15, 2008 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, 2200 Justin Lane, with Father Jim officiating. Burial will be held in Oakwood Cemetery. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection or the Shrine Children's Hospital.
