

Roy Thomas (Tom) Clark, Jr. was born in Lockhart, Texas on February 22, 1922, the son of Roy T. and Ada Masur Clark. During the military phase of his life, he served in the U.S. Air Force as a pilot, making 52 trips over the Himalayan Hump between India and China. Later, he was engaged in research and development activities in the Air Force Space Program, where he was responsible for the development of propulsion systems, then for the launch of 22 satellites into polar orbit using the Titan III at Vandenburg AFB, California. Other military assignments included Assistant Professor of Chemistry at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs and Associate Professor of Chemistry at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y.
He retired from the Air Force, and beginning in 1969, he held an administrative position in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Texas at Austin until retirement in 1984.
During most of his life, he enjoyed investments, travel, sport fishing and biotechnology. He was included in American Men of Science 1960 and 1965, Who's Who in the West 1960 and Who's Who in the South and Southwest 1995 to Present. He was also included in Who's Who in America, 2000 to Present.
He is survived by his wife Anne Clark of Austin, his son Tom Clark, his daughter in law Holly Clark and granddaughter Christian Anne Clark, all of San Antonio and by the many friends and colleagues he enjoyed during the last 88 years.
He will live in our hearts as a good and honorable man who loved his family and served his country well. We will miss him but take comfort that he is standing tall in the presence of our savior Jesus Christ.
The family would like to express special appreciation to the caregivers at Westminster Manor Health Care center for the care and attention they provided to him during the final season of his life.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 19 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church at 8134 Mesa Drive. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Settlement Home for Children or Food for the Poor.
