

Ruby Eleanor Bloomquist Hackett, died on Wednesday, August 5, 2009. She was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Mrs. Hackett was confirmed in the Elam Lutheran Church in Scandia. She graduated with a nursing degree from Gustavus Adolphus College and met her husband, Charles Wilson Hackett, Jr. in Seattle, Washington, where she was based as an airline stewardess for Northwest Orient Airlines. After living in Columbus, Ohio, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Houston, Texas, the family returned to Dr. Hackett's hometown of Austin in 1966 where they have continued to reside. Mrs. Hackett actively participated in numerous organizations, including the Junior Helping Hand, the Austin Women's Symphony League, the University of Texas Ladies Club, the University of Texas Faculty Wives' Club and Pan American Round Table of Austin. She also belonged to the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. She was preceded in death by her husband and a sister, Violet Bloomquist. Mrs. Hackett is survived by her daughters Jean Hackett of San Antonio and Tina Gregory of Austin. Also surviving her are grandsons Hunter and Andrew Wilkes, and Matthew Gregory; sons-in-law Robert Wilkes and John Gregory; and her sister Ruth Nicholson. In honor of Mrs. Hackett's memory, the family members ask that contributions be made to Pan American Round Table of Austin, c/o Harriett Breihan, 1710 Barton Creek Blvd., Austin, TX 78735, to Hospice Austin, 4107 Spicewood Springs Rd., Suite 100, Austin, TX 78759 or to a charity of one's choice. Mrs. Hackett's family wishes to thank the staff and caregivers at Westminster Manor, Westminster Healthcare Center and Hospice Austin for the outstanding care given to Mrs. Hackett. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2009 at Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel with Dr. Mark Nuckols, Pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Austin Memorial Park. Pallbearers are Bill Rison, Will Rison, Justin Howe, George Weilbacher, Josh Weilbacher, Jim Glass, Chris Nelson and Don Sneed. Honorary Pallbearer will be James Glass.
