In 1941, Ruby married Charlie F "Rusty" Taylor at age 19. Rusty was an Air Force man and the family traveled widely during the war. In 1965, Senior Master Sgt. Taylor retired, and the couple bought a home in the Windsor Park neighborhood. Rusty died in 1987.
Ruby is survived by her son, Craig Taylor, who resides in Austin. Ruby passed away peacefully on March 31, 2026, in her home surrounded by those who loved her. A special neighbor noted "she had a presence even with her small stature." That's our Ruby!
In 1927, Ruby's father died very tragically. Her mom and three children relocated to Giddings, Texas, to reside with her maternal grandparents. Ruby grew up during the Depression, and a strong work ethic was instilled. Her mother worked for the phone company as a chief phone operator. With this salary, she supported her three children as well as her elderly parents. "The value of saving was drilled into us", she said.
Ruby, a hard worker, was an active person who cherished her relationships with family members, friends, and neighbors. Ruby was a proud member of the Municipal Art Guild for many years, she served as a volunteer driver for the Northeast Austin Caregivers, and delivered monthly neighborhood newsletters every month without fail.
Ruby had a green thumb, loved nature, always had a kitty in her home, offered to do favors for others, and loved talking to everyone. Ruby was a joy - a positive soul who shared countless stories about her life experiences and her opinion - and at age 103 had wealth to share.
"Real women don't have hot flashes... They have power surges." -Ruby Taylor
Rest in peace, our dear Ruby.
