Rufus, known affectionately as Ru, was born March 14, 1957, in Lafayette, Louisiana, to Cora Delores Antoine and Rufus James Archon Sr. Raised in New Iberia, Louisiana, Rufus excelled in athletics and academics. He attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana (currently known as the University of Louisiana at Lafayette), and graduated in 1979 with a degree in Computer Science. Shortly after, Rufus moved to Austin, Texas, where he laid roots and began his next chapter.
Rufus was a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated. As an inventor and visionary, he accomplished many things during his lifetime, including working for IBM for 22 years and patenting several technologies. But most of all, Rufus was a doting father, a proud Papa, and a loving grandPAW.
Rufus is survived by his son, Rashiem Alston and daughter, Whitney Archon; grandsons, Apollo Archon and Troy Archon; grandDOGhters, Coco and Medusa; and brothers, Glen Antoine, Pete Antoine, and Frederick Antoine.
The family would also like to thank Marc Saintfleur for the care and compassion he showed our loved one in his final days.
Family, friends, and others whose lives were touched by Rufus are invited to celebrate his life and legacy. A wake and visitation will be held at the Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills Funeral Home in Austin from 5:00 to 8:00 pm this Friday, February 28, 2025. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at the Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills Funeral Home, followed by interment at the Cook-Walden Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville.
