Ruth Lohmeyer Bourne was born in South Roscoe Township, Kansas, on December 4, 1921, the youngest child of Rev. William Lohmeyer and Clara Kanke Lohmeyer. She grew up in Craig, Missouri, and graduated from Lutheran Nursing School in St. Louis. The Lord wrapped his arms around her and took her to Heaven on March 27, 2013. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Herbert Bourne, who was the dashing young Army officer whom she met and fell in love with while in nursing school. After her graduation and his completion of military service, they enjoyed an exciting and adventurous life together, living in California, Montana, Louisiana, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Florida, and finally in East Texas, spending winters in Rockport, Texas. He was an entrepreneur, she a nurse, and mother to her only child, Janis. After Herbert's death in 1984 Ruth moved to Austin to be near her daughter, with whom she had a very special bond.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Janis Beck and husband Victor, his son Frank Beck, and wife Debbie, their sons Victor and Hunter, all of Austin, along with granddaughter Karen Beck and her life long partner, Judy Shepherd of Redondo Beach, California. Also surviving Ruth are nephews Gary Lohmeyer of Plano, Texas, Neil Lohmeyer of Lincoln, Nebraska, Jan Lohmeyer of Houston, Texas, niece Diane Lohmeyer Peterman of St Louis Missouri, their spouses and families.
We wish to thank Ruth's neighbors and the staff at RBJ Retirement Home for their friendship, Meals on Wheels for their daily visits and smiles, Southern Hospitality Home for their compassion, Crystal Martin of Odyssey Hospice for her guidance and support, and Di Di Campos for her loving care.
There will be a private memorial service. In lieu of flowers, Ruth asked that you take a friend to lunch and say how much their friendship means to you.
