Ruth (Martin) Snyder

A graduate of Kilgore College, Ruth married Fred Louis Snyder in 1948 in Kilgore, where they lived until moving to Austin in the early 1960s. Ruth was a decades long fixture at the State Capitol during each legislative session as an advocate for the developmentally disabled. Ruth Snyder and her husband Fred were instrumental in organizing The Austin State School Parent Association as well as PART-Parents and Allies for Remarkable Texans from their tiny den in their home. Ruth dedicated her life to improving the lives of the mentally and developmentally disabled and to ensure that they could all have lives of dignity and purpose.

Ruth Martin Snyder is predeceased by her parents Lewis Ardis Martin and Willie Jones McWilliams; her husband Fred Louis Snyder; siblings Gussie Martin Madden, Lewis C Martin, LP Martin, Delmar Ardis Martin, Jewel Martin Carlock and Maxine Martin Copes. She is survived by her daughter Freda Snyder of Austin and multiple nieces and nephews. The family wants to thank Brush Country Nursing and Rehab and particularly the Martinez family for their decades of friendship and loving care in her final years.

A visitation for Ruth will be held Saturday, September 11, 2021 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas 78752. A funeral service will occur Saturday, September 11, 2021 at 2:00 PM, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas 78752. A graveside service will occur Saturday, September 11, 2021 at Cook-Walden/ Capital Parks Cemetery, 14501 North IH-35, Pflugerville, Texas 78660.
