

Sally Strawn Rudd, age 99, of Austin passed away on Sunday, December 6, 2009. She was born September 1, 1910 in Runge, Texas. Sally graduated with a degree in music and was an accomplished pianist. She was a homemaker, social inspirer, and promoter and supporter of music, the symphony and opera in the Austin area. Sally was married to John Speed Rudd, Jr. a Lt. Commander in the US Navy during WWII and a longtime accomplished Actuary. He preceded her in death in 1980. She was a loving member of the University United Methodist Church in Austin for over 65 years. A scholarship, given by the Wednesday Morning Music Club of which she was a longtime member, is awarded each year to a high school musician in Sally's name. She was also a member of the Austin History Club. Loving to travel, she was able to see many far away places in her life; China, Alaska and Europe just to name a few. Sally loved dogs, nature, the outdoors and was a great cook. Survivors include her only son, John Speed Rudd, IV; her granddaughter, Mary Alys Nixon; and great-granddaughter, Eliza Claire Starche. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at University United Methodist Church, 2409 Guadalupe, Austin.
