

Samuel G. Lopez, 52, of Austin, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on January 30, 2025, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease.
Born on October 17, 1972, in Kansas City, Kansas, to Pete Sanchez Lopez and Pauline Galvan Lopez, Sam was a proud graduate of Travis High School. Throughout his life, he had a deep love for dancing, bowling, and watching WWE. He was also a devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys and always looked forward to game days. Sam had a particular fondness for hamburgers, pizza and fish, which he enjoyed whenever possible.
For many years, Sam was an active participant in Special Olympics Texas, where he competed in several sports, with his favorites being bowling, track and field, bocce, and basketball. His passion for sports reflected his joyful and spirited nature, which he shared with everyone around him. One of the highlights of his life was traveling to Washington, D.C., as a delegate for Special Olympics Texas, where he had the honor of meeting Members of the Congress during "Capitol Hill Day."
Sam will be forever remembered for his infectious smile, sense of humor, and lively dance moves. His warm heart and love for his family were undeniable, and he will always be cherished as the "baby" of the family. His words, "Love you," will continue to resonate in the hearts of his loved ones, as they remember him with affection and gratitude.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Pauline Lopez, and his brother, Robert G. Lopez. Sam is survived by his brothers, Richard D. Lopez, Thomas G. Lopez, and Joseph A. Lopez; his sisters, Susan Abigail Lopez and Irene M. Dowling; as well as his many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews who will miss him dearly.
A service to honor and celebrate Sam's life will be held at Weed Corley Fish Funeral Home, 2620 South Congress Avenue, Austin, Texas 78704 on Thursday, February 6, 2025 at 1:00 PM. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends forever.
