Sandie was born January 2, 1953 in Rock Island Illinois and raised lovingly in Reynolds, Illinois by her parents Harold and JoAnn Moffitt, who predeceased her. After her high school graduation Sandie attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, where she obtained a BA in Classical Studies. Sandie was a lover of learning, and spent many years at SIU accumulating hours with classes in her varying interests, including mathematics, construction technology, linguistics, philosophy. Among her fondest memories were summer trips to Greece, where she assisted a beloved Classics professor and scholar with research.
Sandie moved to Austin in 1985 and worked in the Financial Aid office at UT as a counselor, where she assisted innumerable students in obtaining and maintaining their financial aid. She later worked with the office's publications section and became adept at desktop publishing.
Sandie and Dana met in 1990 and have been inseparable since. They created a life together, and when Cody was born in 1994 their family was complete in a way that neither had dreamed possible. In 2014 they were married in her hometown area and celebrated with family and longtime friends.
Sandie was born to be a mother. She was nurturing, thoughtful, artistic, fun and funny, and most of all delightfully eccentric. She was an inveterate reader across all genres, enjoyed texting in verse, was a big fan of the Astros and Longhorn women's sports, especially basketball. She loved music of all kinds and until her later years was a regular attendee at ACL and Old Settlers. She was adept and skillful at so many things, fulfilling her creative side (and filling the house) with innumerable items she made, assembled, re-made, fixed or simply gathered.
Sandie was predeceased by her parents, brother in law Larry Reason and a beloved niece, Deana McCarthy. She is survived by wife Dana Johnson and their son Cody; by sisters and their spouses: Barb Ayers (Rick); Bev Kaiser (Kyle); Sue Reason and Cheryl Klossing (Danny). Also mourning her passing are many nieces and nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews in Illinois and Texas, all of whom loved her dearly.
Sandie would have encouraged everyone to vote in November as if your life depended on it - because it might. In lieu of flowers, donations to assist those less fortunate would be appreciated. A Celebration of life will be held at a later date; details will be forthcoming.
