

Sharon Ann Dickey, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend to all passed away on Saturday, October 18 in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer. Sharon will always be remembered for her spirit, courage and unconditional love for family and friends. Her smile was infectious. Sharons beauty was surpassed only by her inner beauty and incredible capacity to love. She was born in Burnet, Texas but spent her childhood in Texas City. After graduating from Texas City High School and attending TCU for one year she married her classmate and lifetime partner, G W Dickey, Jr. in 1962. Sharon and G W began their marriage in Austin attending The University of Texas. After graduation in 1965 they began their career and lived in many cities, but the love of Austin and The University of Texas brought them back in 1983. Sharon was a full time mother and wife for many years and then went to work for Westlake High School in 1987. She was one of the centerpieces in the family of Westlake and over the years became one of the most beloved people in the community. She was a regular at all Westlake HS activities and was a second mother to many former Westlake students. Sharons years at Westlake were one of the special times of her life. Sharon is survived by her husband G W Dickey, Jr.; her children Brent, Craig and Jolie; her daughter in-laws Elizabeth and Susan; her son-in-law Matt Friess of Dallas; her mother Gwendolyn Jones Ricketson of Kingsland; her mother-in-law Madeline Russell Dickey of Wimberley; her brother and sister-in-law Mike and Gloria Dickey of Wimberley; her grandchildren, Catherine, Amanda and Austin; her nephews Mike and Kenneth; her niece Elizabeth and numerous relatives and friends. Her father W. M. Ricketson, her father-in- law G W Dickey, grandparents and other relatives preceded her in death. The family wishes to extend their special thanks and gratitude to Dr.George Blumenshein, and his staff at the Arlington Cancer Center and Dr. John Doty and his staff at the Southwest Cancer Center. Their talents, loving care and kindness helped carry Sharon through the five years of her illness. The family also extends thanks to Hospice Austin for their assistance and loving care. Sharon lived life to its fullest, even in her battle against cancer. She loved attending UT and Westlake HS activities if only to talk and see what others were wearing. She was born to shop and her outgoing personality and conversation abilities would rival anyone. She loved to laugh and greeted everyone with a smile. Sharon loved her family and friends. She touched so many lives and will be deeply missed. Family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday October 21 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 North Lamar. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 22 at Riverbend Church, 4214 Capital of Texas Hwy.
