Shay Shoop, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, left this world for heaven on Thursday, May 10, 2012. Shay was the daughter of the late Dr. And Mrs. David Wade and grew up in Austin. She loved her husband, Robert, from the time she first met him when she was 14 and truly did marry her childhood sweetheart. She loved to tell stories about their life together. She treasured her children and their spouses: Wade Christopher Shoop and wife, Kate Thompson Shoop, and Amanda Katheryne Shoop Kuehl and husband, Joel Kuehl; her grandchildren, Grace Shoop, Annabelle Kuehl and Hunter Kuehl, were the lights of her life. She enjoyed playing with them, teaching them to paint in her studio and watching them grow.
A vibrant, gifted, and loving lady her hospitality was legendary. Invitations to her Christmas parties, card parties, dinner parties were coveted. She gave freely of her talents to the community, having served as Women’s Symphony League President, Jewel Ball Chairman twice - her Buccaneer Ball was especially memorable-and Symphony Showhouse Chairman. She was also Chairman of the Jewel Committee and she spearheaded the committee to replace the Diamond’s Robe. She was a very active member of the Austin Women’s Club where she chaired the first Mystery Dinner and had served as President of the Junior Austin Women’s Club. She was a life member of the Junior Helping Hand Society, a sustaining member of the Austin Junior League, active in the Coats for Kids drive, one of the founders of the Austin Magnolias, and enthusiastic member of the Austin Assembly. She worked tirelessly for her many charities and could charm even the tightest fists into donating for a good cause.
Strong in her beliefs she loved her church, was a voracious reader, loved poetry and famous quotes. She thrived on etiquette, old world manners—she was truly a lady of southern charm in the grand manner. Good hearted and completely loyal to her closest friends among whom she included those from St. Andrews Episcopal School, O’Henry Jr. High and Austin High, she was Nanny Queenie to her grandchildren but in her heart she was still that little girl who put on her boots and hat and knew exactly which gun to take on that day’s hunt, holding her own with her dad and his friends. She loved the fine arts, painting in her studio, crafting and sharing her talents with her friends and family.
There are fond memories and stories of her car, flitting through various college campuses and marrying the love of her life - the acolyte of her church. She loved the outdoors - hunting, fishing, and gardening and her puppies - Rhett, Pistol and Bullet. She was a talented artist, the lynchpin of her family and a true and loving friend. She will be sorely missed. Blessings, joy and peace be yours Shay.
