Sherman Allen Kusin died unexpectedly Sunday, August 31, 2014. Sherman was born March 15, 1933, in Texarkana, Texas. He grew up in Texarkana before enrolling in the University of Texas at Austin in 1950. From the moment he hit the forty acres, he fell in love with Austin and all things UT.
After serving as an officer in the Air Force, he worked in radio for a brief time in San Francisco where he met his wife Ellen. In 1962, he returned to the University of Texas for law school. He then moved back to his hometown of Texarkana to practice law, and became a partner in Harkness Friedman & Kusin. For the next 30 years he enjoyed a successful law practice in Texarkana, where he and Ellen lived with their three children Stuart, Robert and Joelle. While he loved his hometown of Texarkana, Austin always beckoned. When he retired in 1995, he moved to Austin, bought season tickets, and became a fixture at almost every Longhorn sporting event available.
Sherman is survived by his wife of fifty-four years Ellen; his son Stuart and daughter-in-law Jana and their children Rachel, Sam, and Gayla; his son Robert and daughter-in-law Angela and their son Max and daughter Joelle and son-in-law Aaron and their children Lane and Ally; his brother Melvin Kusin of Dallas; and his sister Gloria Bishkin Davis of Dallas.
If you wish to donate in Sherman's memory, please consider donations to Temple Beth Shalom of Austin in his name.
