She graduated from Emporia State University, then Kansas State Teachers’ College, with a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1974. For the following 5 years she taught in Kansas City elementary schools until she moved to Austin, Texas in 1979. While working at IBM, she met her husband Rick Trommer and spent the next years enjoying raising their sons Andy and Griffin. She then taught in Round Rock schools for several years as well as for the Williamson County Literacy Counsel where she was an instructor teaching English to foreign groups coming to Austin to work as well as to students studying to complete their GEDs. Sherry was a past volunteer for the Caring Place, an organization that assists families in need in Northern Williamson County with food, clothing, household supplies, and other services. Sherry was a lover of words, puzzles, quotes, wordplay and puns and was a talented writer, some of which is witnessed in the blog she wrote in the early part of her illness at melanomahappens.wordpress.com. Sherry’s family wishes to acknowledge the support and care received by Texas Oncology and Hospice Austin staff.
