Sophie Pribble was born on October 10, 1925 in Endicott, New York to John and Stella Pigos and passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2019. She attended elementary and high school in Endicott. Sophie met her husband Bill in Endicott where he was working for IBM. They lived in Poughkeepsie, New York, Ft. Thomas, Kentucky, and Lexington, Kentucky before finally moving to Austin in 1968 with IBM.
When their granddaughter Stacy was born in 1985, Bill retired from IBM. Sophie and Bill gladly became Stacy’s babysitters, as they surrounded her with unconditional love and devotion. They became everyone's “Nana” and “Poppy”, as Stacy named them, attending all of Stacy's school events as well as extracurricular, never missing a single one throughout all of her years of schooling.
Nana was a wonderful and kind lady to everyone. She was one of the most selfless individuals ever, always putting others’ needs and comforts above her own. Nana was always smiling and positive, no matter the situation, and her notoriously infectious smile could brighten anyone’s day. Sophie had many interests including ceramics, bridge, cake decorating, gardening, antique collecting, relaxing at the family ranch in Cedar Creek, cheering on her Kentucky Wildcats during basketball season, and in later years, enjoying the beach at Port Aransas.
Sophie is preceded in death by her husband William Pribble.
She is survived by her daughter Marilyn Kennison and husband Chris, granddaughter Stacy Kazmir and husband Cliff, great-granddaughter Savannah Grace Kazmir (due in July), Stacy’s half-brothers Ben and Bryan Boatright, several nieces and nephews, and many cherished friends.
The family would like to thank special friends Ray and Ophelia Russell and Barbara and Tinsley Oden for their love and attention for so many years. Much love and appreciation go to Sophie's niece and goddaughter Kathy Giglio of Smithtown, New York, who has always gone above and beyond for her Aunt Sophie.
Visitation will be on Saturday, April 6 from 2:00-5:00 pm at Cook-Walden, North Lamar location. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, April 7 at Austin Memorial Park on Hancock Drive.
