Music was the joy of Stan's life. His biggest treat was Tina Turner. We made it to every concert tour she did in Texas from the early 80's to her farewell tour in 2008. We managed to get front row seats in Houston for her last concert in Texas.
Stan was a collector of Macintosh vintage stereo equipment and I was so happy he assembled such a collection of equipment and antique recordings. His record collection ran from Pachelbel's "Canon in D Major" recorded with original instruments and all the way up The Marvelettes, "Please Mr. Postman".
Stan was one of the most devoted persons to his family that I ever knew. Every night we visited his grandmother Budnick and Uncle Bud who was a quadriplegic to help his mother with their care. His grandmother Oestrick lived with us briefly before going to a nursing facility. Later Stan and I helped his mother get to her kidney dialysis treatments.
When I had cancer in 2010, he was at my side to hold my hand. I reciprocated in 2014 and was at his side when he had oral cancer. Our lives were not totally focused on health. Stan was a cat lover. We had our special kitties. He worked to help trap, spay and neuter many of the feral cats and find homes for them through the Animal Services of Austin. Surely, the Egyptian God, Bast, will smile on Stanley Edward Oestrick a million million years!
May my love for Stan endure that long as well. --Gary Lay
