

Steve Liarakos was born in Lewiston, Maine on July 15, 1917, the first born son of immigrant parents from Greece. Steve passed away quietly early Christmas morning after having visited with many of his family Christmas Eve.
Steve lost his true love, best friend and wife, Beverly June Liarakos in January 2009 and was also preceded in death by his sister, Cecile D'Amour; father, Charles; and mother, Stella.
Steve is survived by his daughter, Deanna Brading of Manor; sons, Tommy Liarakos of San Antonio, Bobby Liarakos of San Antonio and Stephen Liarakos of Buda. Steve had five grandchildren, Joel Vasquez, Jeremy Vasquez, Michael Liarakos, Jessica Liarakos, Amanda Liarakos and three great grandchildren, Mara, Gavin and Lilly.
Steve enjoyed his long distance relationship with his brother and sister-in-law, Chuck and Helen Liarakos and four surviving sisters, Anna La Rocca, Joanne Liaros, Bessie Hildredth and Antoinette Ramsey.
Steve was a decorated veteran of both World War II and the Korean Conflict. Steve received a battlefield commission in the Pacific Theatre during World War II but, when he rejoined the service he elected to do so as a sergeant. Steve served his country for over 20 years and after his retirement from the U.S. Army was associated with the Army Reserve officer training program at Camp Mabry as a civilian instructor and mentor.
Steve's proudest accomplishment was his involvement in the establishment of McBride's Coin Shop in Austin. His hobby and passion became his livelihood for many years. Steve also thoroughly loved the sport of baseball, for which he was an ardent fan and collector of memorabilia for years.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 12, 2012 at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.
