The world has lost a bright light, and heaven gained a great angel - he’ll be talking up a storm behind those pearly gates, as we all can imagine - I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up on the welcoming committee! Steve was always talking about his family, especially Mary. We all knew she was special to Steve. I worked at Genesis Today with Steve  and could (and would!) easily spend an hour talking about work and two hours just shooting the breeze. It was a highlight of my day to get a good story out of him. Two of my favorite memories; the first being chatting about his daily thrifting runs and hearing about the scores he made, teaching me all his tricks to getting the best deals. I remember him finding a Big Green Egg and having to explain to me how amazing they are and what a find it was, and I’ve channeled that energy in my thrifting adventures ever since. The second, a story about Mary finding out about a large piece of equipment via images on Google Maps/Earth that he had been trying to hide. I don’t remember all the details, but it was a pretty funny story and I can hear his laughter in my memory. I’m saddened to hear that Steve has passed from this plane onto the next, but his warmth will live on in our hearts forever. I’m so grateful to have crossed paths with him.

I had the great pleasure of working with Steve for many years at Vital Farms and am deeply saddened to learn of his passing. My deepest condolences to his family and those he touched across his life. He was the most kind, selfless person that I met in my ten years living in Austin, going out of his way to help anyone in need, both in and out of work. And as we all know, he was quite loquacious (as am I) and our conversations would start off about a work topic and end up miles away on some random subject, like Japanese trucks, all to my enjoyment! He spoke often of his sons and their various pursuits, he was certainly proud of them and a loving father. My favorite story was when he told me how he would swim to the bottom of Lake Travis and sit down there feeding hot dogs to the fish! For real! I laugh out loud every time I visualize this, it's so silly! As the Scottish poet Thomas Campbell wrote so many ages ago, “To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die," and I have no doubt Steve will live on in the memories of all those he touched.

One of my favorite memories of my Uncle Steve is when he would spend hours played 2v2 basketball with me and my cousins Jason and Stevie. Even if we lost he told me don’t beat your self up and you will get them next times.

I don’t think they would allow me the space to truly say all the things I could and want to about Steve.  I first want to send my love to Mary, Stevie and Zach.  He would spend hours and hours talking about you because you were his entire world.  The things you boys would do with him would just light him up when telling me about your weekend or whatever adventure was just done - working on the Firebird to flipping auction hospital beds!  The Manz was a true life MacGyver and I was always in awe of what he could pull off.  Would go above and beyond to help anyone out that was in need.  That speaks to just how big his heart was.  His mouth was possibly even larger.  Ha He could turn a 10 minute question into a 2.5 hour conversation quicker than anyone I have ever met.  But no matter how many times I heard the same stories over and over, I still listened as if it was the first because it was usually a story about his kids, a car he had, a job or an excavator in Lockhart.  Ha. I truly will miss Steve. I know not working together made connecting that much more difficult, but when we did, I always enjoyed catching up.  Manz meant more to me than a manager at a job.  He was a great friend, a mentor and someone I knew I could go to and get the adult advice I needed.   All my love to the family and I will miss Steve and will make sure to book four hours when we meet again.  Love you Manz.

I’ve actually had the pleasure of working with Steve twice in my career: first with Vital Farms and, secondly, with Maev. My first one-on-one with him was scheduled for 30 minutes, and we talked for over an hour. I really enjoy his ability to be a jack-of-all-trades and figure out the most difficult problems. Steve had a pure way to telling a story and always kept me laughing. He was definitely a kind soul and a pleasure to know. It’s very seldom you get to meet one of God‘s angels while here on earth, and he was definitely one of them. I will definitely miss Steve. He is greatly missed!

Steve meant more to me than I could ever fully express. His kind heart, gentle soul, and generous spirit brought light into my life, and I’m endlessly thankful for the time I was lucky enough to spend with him. The world feels a little sadder now, and I miss him already.

We all loved Steve. He had such a kind and beautiful soul and would give you the shirt off his back. We shared many family events together, and he helped us preserve those memories with his photos and videos that we will cherish always. We miss him dearly and are so very sorry for your loss.
