Susie Lorene Marsh

She was born on February 9, 1952, in Austin, Texas, to Cristobal “Chris” G. Lucio and Guadalupe Salazar Lucio. She graduated from the old Austin High in 1970.

In 1972, Susie married Phillip Marsh in the kitchen of her parents’ home in East Austin. The couple moved to Columbia, Missouri, where Susie lived until 1995; they had one daughter, Lindsay. Though Susie and Phillip later divorced, they remained close friends until his unexpected passing in 2006.

Susie was, like her father, a devout Catholic and a proud Texas Democrat. She found joy in greasy cheeseburgers, dogs, the Kansas City Chiefs (not a bandwagon fan), the San Antonio Spurs, unique wrapping paper, and elephants.

She will be remembered for her Christmas decorations, her gift for keeping a secret, and above all, her unwavering love as a grandmother. To her grandson, she was the ultimate partner-in-crime; if moms said no, Grandma would open the Amazon app and ask “Mijo, what do you want?” She also supplied spending money, unlimited popsicles, and late-night movie marathons. She did exactly what grandmas are supposed to do - love and spoil.

Susie is survived by her daughter, Lindsay Marsh (Heidi Gerbracht); Michelle Robertson; and the love of her life, her grandson, Ezra. She is also survived by her siblings, Lupe Salinas of Austin and Chris Lucio of Fort Worth; nieces, Joni Guerrero and Ashley Salinas both of Austin; nephew, Rudy Sustiata of Katy; Heather Daugherty and Ian Mailhot of Austin; and many other nieces and nephews both in Texas and Missouri.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings Morris, Celestino, Mary, John, Bea, and Linda.

Susie’s daughter would like to thank all of the staff and volunteers at Hospice Austin’s Christopher House for their incredible kindness.

“I said to that undertaker, ‘Undertaker, please drive slow. For this lady you are carrying, Lord, I hate to see her go.’”
