

The Honorable Don B. Morgan The Honorable Don Byars Morgan, 71, born on December 30, 1935 in Austin, Texas, died November 6, 2007. Judge Morgan graduated from Austin High, The University of Texas and UT Law School. He married Mary Walton Johnson, on September 3, 1956. He practiced law in Wichita Falls and Texas City. In December 1976, Governor Briscoe appointed Morgan to the 212th District Court in Galveston. In 1988, they returned to Austin where he worked in the Office of the Attorney General, Transportation Division. Upon retirement, Judge Morgan served as a visiting judge. Recently, he organized a court for the Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas, Eagle Pass. He sat briefly as its judge. Preceded in death by his parents, A.D. and Mildred Morgan, he is survived by his wife, Mary; daughters Anne and Sarah; son Thomas and daughter-in-law Sheila Lummis, and their children Hank and Owen; near daughters: Catherine Mauzy, Beth Moten, Kate Musemeche, Carla Work; brother A.D. Morgan and wife Barbara; sister Mary Jane Richey; and sisters-in-law, Louise Johnson, Grace Johnson and Eugenia Richards and husband, Clifford. Nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great-nieces also survive him. Raised in the Baptist Church he was strengthened by his knowledge of Scripture. He strongly believed in the sanctity of the Bill of Rights, the solemnity of the courtroom, the separation of church and state, and the Democratic Party. Don also loved collecting art, reading poetry and being in the formal garden at their country place on the San Marcos River. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, November 9 at 12 noon at the Texas State Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice or plant a tree in his memory.
