Ted only had a 50% chance of surviving birth, and indeed, he chose to come to this place 2 months early, arriving on October 16, 1971 in Austin. He was small enough to fit in the massive hand of his grandfather, yet eager for life. And that was Ted. He faced life at full charge ahead. A bit of a rogue, challenging his guardian angel, yet with the sweetest, most caring soul that God ever created. He remembered his mother’s tale of being in Hong Kong in 1969 staring across the border into China and not being able to cross it. So in 2009 he announced that he and mom needed a vacation and he was going to take her to China. And he did.
Ted had many jobs over his brief life from working in the family cable construction business, to managing small businesses, to law enforcement. In all he did Ted had a tremendous work ethic giving a 110% of himself. But what was important to him was his faith, family, and friends. His nephew and niece, Adrian and Krystalynn Buesing, were so dearly loved by him. Ted did his best to be there for all their special days. He was so proud of the young adults they are becoming. And as everyone knows, family or friend, if you needed help with anything, he would drop whatever he was doing to be there for you. That was Ted.
His only dream was a piece of land in the country where he could share his life with his only family. He found his family in the person of Christi Crochet and her daughters Maddie and Cami, and for the first time in his life his joy shined for all to see. Ted’s life was coming together and he was happy.
He is predeceased by his father, Theodore Frederick Burger, Jr.; his aunt, Leonora Siedo, and his grandparents. He is survived by his beloved mother, Mary Burger; his sister and brother-in-law, Leslie and Brian Buesing; his nephew, Adrian; his niece, Krystalynn; his love, Christi Crochet and her two daughters, Maddie and Cami; and so many dear, dear friends, colleagues, and extended family.
Ted was called to heaven on Monday, May 5, 2014. His family and friends now have their own personal guardian angel. Ted had a short but full life. And his friends can testify to the many ways Ted took their breath away in his life and actions. It was never truer than with Ted: Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take but by the number of moments that take our breath away.
