Thomas Rodney "Rod" Parker, 59, of Austin passed away on Monday, August 31, 2015. Rod was born on January 9, 1956 in El Paso, Texas to Wilma Rae McGary. He grew up in Amarillo, and lived in several other cities until he settled in Austin.
Rod went to Amarillo High School graduating in 1974. He then went on to Southwest Texas University in San Marcos where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management. For the last 22 years, Rod worked at Hull Supply where he was so fortunate to have many caring coworkers and managers which he thought of as family. Rod had a love for hunting and fishing along with some golf. Rod was an avid dog lover and always had a dog as his companion.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Wilma Parker Perkins and his brother-in-law, Bill Hetzler. Survivors include his father, John Parker and wife, Carolyn; sister, Terri Duffy; niece, Amanda Duffy, uncle and aunt, Reid and Joyce Fitzgibbons; numerous other relatives; and a host of friends.
A Celebration of Rod’s Life will be at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, September 12, 2015 in the Chapel of Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home.
For those desiring, the family would like contributions to be made in Rod’s memory to any society for animals or the American Diabetes Association.
