Beloved husband, son, brother, uncle, Eagle Scout and honorable Marine Corporal Timothy Jay Read, 33, passed away on March 16, 2023. He was born in Logan, Utah to Dr. John and Mrs. Lisa Read on August 12, 1989. He moved around the world with his family during childhood and after graduating from high school in Starkville, Mississippi in 2007, Timothy enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served with distinction for many years. He quickly rose through the ranks within the 2nd Battalion 6th Marines at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, to become a squad leader, earning numerous commendations for his bravery, leadership, and commitment to excellence. In 2010, he was awarded two Purple Heart Service Medals for the wounds he sustained on the battlefield in Afghanistan.
Tim remained resolute and determined to make the most of his life. He met his loyal fellow Marine service dog, Shadow, during his recovery and later fell in love with his dear wife, Anh Read of St. Petersburg, Florida. Together, they pursued service-oriented adventures, tended to their home and cherished animals, and traveled the world.
In addition to his military service, Tim was an accomplished Eagle Scout, a lifelong learner with a passion for IT/computer engineering, and a devoted member of his community. He worked tirelessly with local Boy Scouts to teach them the importance of leadership, teamwork, and the great outdoors, while also pursuing his love of cars and connecting with others over shared interests and experiences.
Throughout his life, Tim embraced community in all its forms, from his beloved family and friends to the camaraderie of his fellow service men and women. He had a passionate spirit and was known for his thoughtfulness, generosity, and attention to detail, especially when it came to giving gifts. He always loved loud and hugged tight, leaving an indelible mark on all those he encountered.
Tim was preceded in death by his father, Dr. John Jay Read, and his grandparents Dr. Jake Read and Peggy Read, William and Elizabeth Coleman, and many Marines on and off the battlefield. He is survived by his wife, Anh Read, his puppy daughter Shadow, his mother, Lisa Read, his sisters Colleen Warren (TJ) and Charlotte Hughes (Jonathan), his niece Juliane Hughes and nephew Theodore Hughes; also many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Tim's life will be honored in a military burial service on May 5, 2023, at Sarasota National Cemetery in Sarasota, Florida at 9:30 am. A celebration of his life will occur on May 4, 2023, at Old McMicky’s Farm in Odessa, Florida at 3:00 pm, where his family and friends will gather to remember him and pay tribute to his remarkable life of service and sacrifice. Tim will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, and his legacy will continue to inspire and guide us for years to come.
