

Tomas Guerrero, 67, of Austin, Texas, passed away on July 26, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. Tom was born in Austin, Texas on December 21, 1944 to Richard G. and Seferina H. Guerrero. Tom graduated from Austin High School in 1963. He joined the Naval Reserve his junior year of high school. Tom served aboard the USS Independence aircraft carrier. It departed in May 1965 to the Western Pacific with the U.S. Seventh Fleet. The carrier set sail around the Cape of Good Hope, into the Indian Ocean and then joined the fleet. While in the Orient, the Independence visited ports in Japan, Philippines, Singapore and Hong Kong. Tom proudly served his country for three years and was honorably discharged as Fireman First Class, FN1C. After Tom returned from the war, he attended and graduated from Nixon-Clay Business School. He then went to work for Walter Tips Wholesale Hardware from 1967-1972. He was then recruited by Calcasieu Lumber Company and worked for them from 1972-1999, when it was bought by Stock Building Supply; he has been employed by that company until present date. Tom married his high school sweet heart Mary Frances Mercado “the love of his life” on November 26, 1967. They have been happily married for 44 years. Tom is preceded in death by his beloved parents Richard G. and Seferina H. Guerrero, his aunt and uncle Jovita and Juan Hernandez and his uncle Pete. Tom is survived by his wife Mary Frances and their two children and their spouses, Tommy Guerrero and wife Ami of Austin, Kristy Kottke and husband David, also of Austin; 4 grandchildren Jack Guerrero, Joey Guerrero, Josh Stern and the beautiful baby girl Samantha Kottke. Tom is also survived by his sister Marie Benites and her husband Fred, his brother Julian and his wife Tomasa and sister Stephanie Garza and her husband Freddy, all of Austin. Also mourning his passing, mother-in-law Amelia Mercado, sister-in-law Mollie Bustos and husband Lute of California, sister-in-law Janie Novak, brother-in-law John Mercado, Jr. and sister-in-law Sandra Chavarria and husband Ernest, of Austin. The Rosary will be held Sunday the 29th of July at 7 o’clock in the evening at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar, Austin, Texas 78752; with a viewing from 5 o’clock until 7 o’clock in the evening. A full mass will be held at 2 o’clock in the afternoon on Monday the 30th of July, 2012 at St. Austin’s Catholic Parish, 2026 Guadalupe St., Austin, Texas, 78705, followed by the burial at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks in Pflugerville, Texas.
