

Tommie M. Trask passed away on Thursday, November 6, 2003 at the Towers Nursing Home in Smithville, Texas. She was born October 10, 1914 in Sulphur Springs, Texas. She married Barrett Barry L. Trask, Sr. in June 1937. They settled in Weslaco, Texas where they lived for 18 years and raised a family. At the age of 47, she fulfilled a lifelong goal of becoming a nurse by graduating from Valley Baptist Nursing School in Harlingen, TX and passing the state board exam with the highest score in her class. In 1962 she and Barry moved with their two children to San Antonio. Tommie was a member of St. Lukes Episcopal Church and worked as a nurse; she was an avid painter, skilled seamstress, organist and gardener. After the death of her husband she moved to Austin and resided at the Continental Retirement Community. At the Continental she made many new friends and stayed there until she became ill in September 2003. Tommie was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be missed for her sense of humor, independence, generosity, and tremendous will to live. She is survived by her sister, Joyce Osborne of Austin; son, Barrett Barry L. Trask, Jr. and wife Ann of Austin; daughter, Diantha Lee and husband Allen of Smithville; grandchildren, Jennifer Trask Odom and husband James, Barrett Barry L. Trask, III, Thomas Trask, Bonnie Lee Rohde and husband Rodney, Randy Lee, Sarah Palmer Henninger and husband Jacob; and 5 great-grandchildren, Haley and Landry Rohde, Luke Henninger, Dawson and Braden Odom. Honoring Tommie as pallbearers will be Rodney Rohde, Jacob Henninger, Dudley Morse, James Odom, Barry Trask, III, and Thomas Trask. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Monday, November 10, 2003 at Wilke-Clay-Fish Funeral Home, 2620 S. Congress Ave., Austin, Texas. The funeral service will be held Tuesday at 2:00 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Interment will follow at Live Oak Cemetery, Manchaca, TX.
