Tyler Jordan Laas, 15, passed away on August 16, 2009, as the result of a scuba diving accident in Cozumel, Mexico. He was born March 8, 1994 in Austin, Texas. Tyler lived life to the fullest and his smile always brought joy to any room. He loved his family and sports of all kinds, with baseball as his favorite. He was generous in spirit, always taking time to spend with others -- from his pets to a new kid at school, and everything in between. Although his time with us was short, he touched the lives of many. We remember him for his ever-present positive, upbeat attitude, sharp sense of humor and the tremendous respect he showed for others, all of which he carried with him whether on the sports field, at Theater Arts, Tango Club, his Volleyball Club in the fifth grade or while making silly home videos with his many friends. Tyler is survived by his parents Steve and Angie; sister Courtney, grandparents Ivan Johnson, Lois Bilbrough, David Everett, Walter Laas, Betty Cannady and Lewis Keith; and an aunt and uncle Amy and David Flanagan; along with many other family members and loving friends. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2009 at Bethany Lutheran Church (3701 W. Slaughter Lane), with funeral services beginning at 11:00 a.m. A Celebration of Tyler's life will then be held at the church with graveside services to follow at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Oak Hill Youth Sports Association, Bowie Baseball Booster Club, the Tyler Laas Memorial Scholarship Fund (donations accepted at any Bank of America branch) or the charity of your choice.
