

Vada was born on December 24, 1925, in McDade, Texas to Homer Mann DeGlandon and Dera Mae Mills DeGlandon. She went to Austin High School. She married Johnny Mayes on March 10, 1946, and had 4 children.
Vada was a member of Sky-View Baptist Church in Austin, where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and always took her Mayes Day Nursery School kids every year for 18 years.
She loved doing yard work and growing things. In her early 90's she was still mowing her lawn. The last 6 years she was at Argent Court Assisted Living and New Haven Memory Care.
Vada was preceded in death by her parents and husband Johnny Mayes; son- John David; daughter- Peggy Lee Moore; grandson- Brandon "Roy Boy" Cairnes; sons-in-law- Rick Knuden and Mike Cairnes; brothers- Birk DeGlandon, Crick DeGlandon, Homer DeGlandon, Marvin DeGlandon; sisters- Sadie Parkhurst, Bonnie Case; several nieces and nephews.
Surviving family members include daughter: Patsy Cairnes of Florence, Texas, Kathy Knudsen of Smithville, Texas; grandson's: John Wolsch (wife Melissa) and Jimmy Pat Cairnes (fiancé Amy Martin); granddaughter's: Nikki Duncan (husband Wade), Billie Curtis (husband Blake). Great-grandson's: Coy Duncan, Logan Curtis, Lane Curtis. Grand Dog's: Reba, Tiffy, Sam Houston, Zoe Dawn, and Kayleigh Q. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
