

Vanell Whittenberg Keating Vanell Whittenberg Keating, age 77, of Austin, Texas, passed away on Sunday, March 27, 2005. She was born on May 20, 1927, to Oland DuBose and Zelma Whittenberg in Florence, Texas. She is survived by her husband Billy J. Keating; sons, Billy Van Keating and wife Linda, Kenneth J. Keating; daughter, Karen V. Keating; brother-in-law, C. A. Smith; sister, Mary Ella Blommer and husband Alan; brother, Olin G. Whittenberg and wife Sue; sister-in-law, Nancy Matthews; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Shirley L. Smith. Vanell graduated from Florence High School in 1944, and was a graduate of Nixon-Clay Business School. She was a homemaker, secretary, worked at the hospital in Fort Hood during WWII and at the American Legion State Headquarters, where she met her husband through a friend. She enjoyed her family, sewing, cooking, plants, travel, reading, music especially Country Music, wrote poems and songs. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to a charity of your choice. Visitation will be held at 6:00 pm 8:00 pm on Wednesday, March 30, 2005, at Wilke-Clay-Fish Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, March 31, 2005, at Wilke-Clay-Fish Funeral Home with Reverend Gordon Bergstrom officiating. Interment will follow at Austin Memorial Park.
