

Vera Elizabeth Youngbloom, age 96, passed away on May 26, 2019, at her home in Austin, Texas. Vera was born on November 10, 1922, in Buffalo, Texas, to parents Willie Mae Dodd and Frederick Edmond Boykin.
Vera was in a very small graduating class at Greenwood Springs High School. Shortly after birth, Vera moved to Mississippi with her family where she remained until graduating high school. Vera then moved to Houston, Texas, where she spent over 40 years, moving to Austin in 1998 to be closer to her grandkids. Vera was in the service industry, working for May department store which turned into Foley’s. Vera was a great woman and loving Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. Vera was married to Edward Youngbloom for over 30 years until his passing in 2002. She was last married to Larkin Miller who passed in 2015. Vera had one child Denise Ann McKinney.
Vera was a social, active woman who was deeply involved in her later years with church and the community center. She volunteered on a regular basis within the church to help others in need. Vera was an avid gardener even winning numerous awards from the city of Houston. She was also an incredible cook of homestyle/southern cooking. Her family and friends will always remember her as having an immaculate home, yard and always offering food to everyone that came over.
Vera is preceded in death by her mother, Willie Mae; father, Frederick Boykin; daughter, Denise McKinney; brothers, Clifford, Barney and Otis, sisters Velma, Thelma & Mae. She is survived by her sister, Ann Hester; grandsons, James McKinney and Chad Randolph of Austin; great grandkids, Stefan, Madelin and Hudson McKinney all of Austin.
The family will receive friends during a visitation on Friday, May 31, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Cook-Walden / Forest Oaks Funeral Home on 6300 W. William Cannon Drive in Austin. A celebration of Vera's life will be conducted by Ken Baldwin at 1:00 p.m. Immediately following the service, a reception will be held in the event room. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Vera’s life.
