

Victor W. Ravel, age 89, of Austin, Texas, died on December 6, 2003. He was born on August 22, 1914 in El Paso, Texas. He married Myra C. Caplin, August 29, 1937; they were married for 64 years. He is survived by one daughter, five grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Victor graduated from El Paso High School as Valedictorian in May 1930. He received his B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin in 1934, graduating Phi Beta Kappa, and he received his LLB from the University of Texas in 1938. He was President of Austin Paper Company from 1960 1980. Victor was active in many civic and religious organizations. He was President of Southwestern Paper Merchants Association, Austin Jewish Foundation, Temple Beth Israel, Child and Family Service Association, Family Service Association of America, United Fund of Austin, Texas Mental Health Association, Project Enable, American Jewish Committee, U.S.O. of Austin, and Austin Community Foundation; he was a Board Member of National Paper Trade Association, Union National Bank, Austin Rotary Club, Human Opportunities Corporation, Social Work Foundation, Advisory Council, University of Texas, Council on Social Work Education, Pebble Project and the Childrens Advocacy Center; he was a member of The Comprehensive Mental Health Planning Commission of Texas, City Charter Revision Committee, Commission on Accreditation of the Council on Social Work Education, Liaison Representative to Centennial Commission the University of Texas, House of Delegates Council on Social Work, Austin Family Mediation Society, American Arbitration Association, Town and Gown of Austin, The Foreign Affairs Committee of Austin and the Headliners Club. Victor received many awards including the National Conference of Christians and Jews Brotherhood Citation, Texas Chapter of National Association of Social Workers, Jewish Community Council of Austin, Community Leadership Award, and the Advisory Council School of Social Work, University of Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 9, 2003 at Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel. Burial to follow at Beth Israel II/Oakwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Cooper, Logan Leabo, Mike Martin Richard Parker, Marc Rosenblum, Stephen Ravel, Tom Viola, and David Weiner. Honorary pallbearers will be Maxine Hairston, Patrick Hazel, Forrest Hill, Ira Iscoe, Doris Karotkin, Bonnie Martin, Irene Parker, Jake Pickle, Carleen Ravel, Irving Ravel, Joanne Ravel, Richard Ravel, Henry Rosenblum, and Elizabeth Viola.
