

She was born June 13, 1948, as Violet Carol Spears, in Hot Springs, Arkansas, to Willie and Daisy Mae Graves Spears.
Violet graduated high school as a member of the National Honor Society in Blank, Mississippi, in 1967. She enlisted in the Marines shortly after high school. While stationed at Camp Pendleton in California, she met her one true love, Gene Arthur Ross, Sr. They were married on July 13, 1967, for 57 years. On February 28, 1968, she gave birth to their only child, Gene Arthur Ross, Jr.
Violet had a smile that would light up the room. She was devoted to her family and friends. Violet also had a passion for bowling, often traveling to tournaments. She once bowled a perfect score of 300.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Tillman Spears, and her sisters, Mildred L. Sigler, Marjorie Louise Golden, Texanna Herron, Esta Mae Smith, and Billie Ruth Dodd. She is also preceded in death by her brothers-in-law Roy, James, Louis, and Raymond, sisters-in-law Priscilla, Pearline, and Betty.
Among those left to celebrate Violet's inspiring life are her devoted and loving husband, Gene, Sr., son Gene, Jr. (RonNeeke), grandchildren, Gene, III., LaTasha, LaTwnique, LaTovia, Racheal, great-grandchildren, Brandon, Marlei, and Dillon, sister-in-law’s Dorthonia Walker (Dennis), Gladys, Doris, Juanita, and Florence; a wealth of wonderful, loving, caring, and supporting nieces and nephews, compassionate cousins, other relatives, and devoted friends.
A visitation for Violet will be held Friday, September 13, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar, Austin, TX 78752. A a celebration of life will occur Saturday, September 14, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Greater Love Baptist Church, 6601 Manor Rd, Austin, TX 78723. A committal service will occur Saturday, September 14, 2024 from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home & Cemetery, 14501 N Interstate Hwy 35, Pflugerville, TX 78660.
