Virginia (Peggy to her closest family and friends) was a resident of Austin for almost 18 years. She was originally from Springdale, AR, and was a long-time resident of Amarillo, TX, where she was a member of Bell Avenue Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her father, William Duirrett Everett; her mother, Jewel Donaldson Everett; her sister Doris Everett Johnson; and her husband, Maurice.
She is survived by her children: daughter Linda Carol Horton and her husband Noel Stephen Horton (Steve) of Odessa; her son Wayne Maurice Bowen (Austin); her daughter Peggy Ann Berry and her husband Dr. Don Travis Berry (Austin); her son William Edward Bowen (Canyon); and Heike Bowen (Amarillo).
Her grandchildren: Dr. Christopher Noel Horton and his wife Deborah (Deb) of Paris, VA; Joshua Stephen Horton (Austin); 1LT. Derek Daniel Horton of the TX Army National Guard and his wife Courtney (Midland); Jordan Thomas Horton (Midland); and Kevin Michael Bowen (Amarillo).
Her great grandchildren: Zachary Ellis Horton; Landon Noel Horton; and Cadance Everleigh Horton.
Virginia was also survived by several nieces, most of whom are still in the Springdale area.
Our beloved mother, Virginia, would have been ninety years old on March 2, which also happens to be TX Independence Day as well as Sam Houston's birthday. We really hoped that she would still be alive on her birthday, but it was not to be. It is notable that she passed six years to the day after her husband Maurice. This may be merely a coincidence, but we prefer to see God's hand in it.
Virginia was a member of The Greatest Generation. Her life was not easy, but she bore and raised four good children, all of whom loved her deeply and were involved in her life until the end. She was a faithful servant of the Lord her entire life.
Private family services will be held.
