Virginia Hill Geck Virginia Hill Geck, a long-time resident of Austin, died peacefully on Monday, August 22nd at Hospice Austin. Born in Jefferson City, MO, on April 24, 1941, Virginia was adopted at birth by Dr. Edwin and Josephine Hill in Lyons, Kansas. She grew up in Kansas, and attended the University of Kansas where she achieved a BA in English. After college, Virginia went on to work for Southwestern Bell for 35 years, retiring in 1991 from a supervisor position in the division office in Austin, Texas. Virginia always considered Austin her real home, embracing and enjoying every aspect of what she often referred to as Texas little gem. She settled here with her husband of 28 years, Hugo Geck and raised three children: Christopher Geck, Mary Geck Francis and Joshua Geck. She had a variety of interests including social science, spirituality, the arts, and volunteerism. One of her true talents rested in her ability to write breathtaking poetry. Virginia was a published international author and gave of her time editing novels from various published authors. During the last ten years, she was a student of Jungian psychology and was passionate about studying and practicing analinear dream analysis. Virginia is likely best known for her penchant for giving her time and energy to those in need as a friend and counselor. She heartily embraced her association with Truth Be Told, a non-profit organization working with women in prison, whereby she met with and later corresponded with dozens of women inmates providing spiritual counsel and friendship. She was a life-time learner, a talented piano player, and a skilled artisan. Virginia often said that her greatest and most privileged role in life was being a mother. Her children especially loved the special way in which she listened intently to even the mundane details, the way she encouraged them to dream bigger than they ever imagined, and the way she taught them to trust God to lead them through life while uncovering the daily miracles along the way. Virginia is survived by her children Christopher Geck, Mary Geck Francis, Joshua Geck, son-in-law Matthew Francis, daughter-in-law Emily Cohen, brother Edwin, step-brother Michael Stephenson, a beloved extended family, her special circle of women friends, and her loyal cat, Chatty. The memorial service for Virginia will be held on Saturday, August 27th at 2:00 PM at The Sanctuary (formerly Tarrytown Baptist Church) at 2600 Exposition Blvd. Memorial Contributions can be made to Truth Be Told, P.O.
