Virginia (Jill) Sperry Blewett, 85, of Austin TX died peacefully at her residence at the Summit Northwest, Austin TX on March 11. Born August 31, 1925 in New Orleans, LA, she was the only child of the late Wade Randolph Sperry and Harriet Hamilton Woolwine Sperry, both of Nashville, TN. She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Dr. Emerson K. (Pete) Blewett.
Virginia graduated from Arlington Heights High School in Fort Worth, TX. She married her high school sweetheart, David Earl Goodrich in 1942, before he shipped out to the Pacific. In the War years she was active in the American Red Cross, and later in the Junior League of Fort Worth and Planned Parenthood. Jill and David were parents of four children.
In 1966 Jill and Pete Blewett were married. Together they moved into Pete’s house opposite Mount Bonnell on Lake Austin, and in the process of expanding it, they discovered a love of architectural antiques. They founded Westlake Architectural Antiques, for which they traveled the world. Jill and Pete enjoyed buying and selling beautiful architectural artifacts, relishing every story that each piece conveyed. Through the antiques business they made many friends all over the world, with whom they enjoyed lasting friendships.
Jill was truly beloved by everyone she met. She had an unusual knack for remembering details about close friends as well as acquaintances, and was sincerely interested in the lives of others. She was never judgmental and she made even the most mundane of experiences fun. She and Pete loved to entertain at their Lake Austin home; her cooking and parties are legendary.
She is survived by her children, Wade Sperry Goodrich and wife Margaret, of Dallas, TX; Robert David Goodrich and wife Vicki, of Elgin, TX; Callie Butler Goodrich, of Austin; Haddy Goodrich Turner and husband Brian Turner, of Austin. Her grandchildren are Benjamin Goodrich, Mary Katherine Goodrich, Grant and Brandy Goodrich, William Goodrich, Trey Hill, Virginia Hill, Joe Turner, Nick Turner, Sam Turner, and Andrew Turner. Each was a source of comfort and joy to their grandmother
.
