She went to high school in McDade, Texas and then Elgin, Texas. She met the love of her life, Melvin Vermell Kyser in McDade. They eloped and rode the train to Topeka, Kansas where they married at the courthouse in 1943. They returned to Austin in 1945.
Virginia worked for Sears in retail, catalog and custom drapery departments. She retired in 1987. She and Vermell then started going on more camping adventures with other family members. Favorite destinations were Big Bend, the Davis Mountains, Colorado and Tennessee. Playing dominoes was one of her favorite activities and she was always ready to play. She was a big football fan and loved watching the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Longhorns. Until her health limited her, she would spend hours working in her yard. She was a big fan of Westerns on TV like Gunsmoke or The Virginian.
She was a member of Onion Creek Baptist Church and attended every Sunday until she could no longer drive.
Virginia is survived by daughter, Shirley Judd and husband Don; daughter-in-law, Karen Kyser; grandchildren, Jason Kyser and wife Alicen, Elizabeth Kyser Harris and husband Joshua, Michelle Judd Todesco and husband Lee, Matthew Judd and wife Mackenzie; great-grandchildren, Madelyn, Kylie, Tristan, Clark and Colette.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Vermell Kyser; her two sons, Mel Kyser and Jimmy Kyser; her sister, Francis Linder; special friend, Jack Sandefur.
Memorial donations in Virginia’s name can be made to the American Cancer Society.
A funeral service for Virginia will be held Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar, Austin, Texas.
